PBR

Mission Statement:

The Positive Relationships and Behaviours Model aims to sustain a culture of harmony and belonging in our community, where all individuals can achieve personal growth.

Positive Relationships and Behaviours Model values:

  • Respect and Tolerance

  • Responsibility

  • Honesty and Trust

  • Personal Success

Principles of the Positive Relationships and Behaviours Model:

  • All human beings have dignity and worth. The model is respectful of age, abilities, sexual orientation, family status, cultures and backgrounds- whether racial, ethnic, geographic, religious, economic or other- all are given equal protection and process.

  • Harm/ wrong doing occurs when we do not think of other’s feelings, backgrounds and safety.

  • We all have a responsibility to fix harm when we are responsible.

  • At Mount Ridley we implement Restorative Justice Principles at every level of the continuum of harm, whether in a classroom setting, alternative environment, or community-based program.

  • At Mount Ridley P-12 we support the offender to be accountable for their actions and act to repair the harm done.

  • All parties should be part of the response to the harm caused including the victim (if they wish), the community and the offender.

  • We show equal concern and advocate for victims, offenders and communities by involving them in the process of fixing harm.

  • The primary goal of PBR is to build positive relationships in the community. When harm is done we repair the relationship through restorative practices.

  • Results of the PBR model are measured by how much repair was done, rather than how much punishment is inflicted.

  • We focus on the harm of the wrong doing, rather than the rules that have been broken. We explore all unintended consequences of the harm, to ensure all things have been fixed.

  • We encourage collaboration and reintegration of victims and offenders rather than coercion and isolation.

  • Healthy, respectful and positive interactions between students, staff and parents require modeling and deserve specific attention in all classrooms and also deserve professional development
