Individual Education Plans (IEP)
IEPs are only for Literacy and Numeracy
IEPs are required for:
-
Students in statutory Out-of-home care (OOHC)
-
Koorie students
-
Students supported under individualised disability funding programs including the Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD) and
-
Disability Inclusion
-
Students in youth justice (custody and community)
-
Students in re-engagement programs under contract arrangements with another school or provider
-
Students undertaking Flexible Learning Options (FLOs).
IEPs are recommended for:
-
Students with additional needs
-
Students not achieving their potential
-
Students at risk of disengagement
-
Students who are young carers (where appropriate)
-
Any other students determined by the school as needing an IEP.
Recommended IEPs will occur on a case-by-case basis as directed by leadership.
Students who are required to have an IEP will have comments in the report writing section. These comments will be obtained from the IEP goals previously set at the beginning of the semester.
Comments will include "What the Student Has Achieved" and "Area for Improvement" comments that will reflect achieved and future IEP goals.
IEP REPORT COMMENTS
What the student has achieved
A sentence will be inserted into the student’s report explaining that the student is on an IEP (this statement can be found in the comment bank on the reporting system) ‘In this subject, an individualised program has been designed to accommodate for the student’s specific needs, maximise engagement and facilitate success. Comments in this section of your child’s report are taken from their Individual Education Plan.’
The comments which are included in the student reports will however come directly from the IEP (located on Compass).

Areas for Improvement
The generic statement: ‘To further develop his skills and knowledge, Charles needs to’ will appear on the reports automatically. An additional statement will be added (this statement can be found in the comment bank on the reporting system) ‘In this subject, an individualised program has been designed to accommodate the student’s specific needs, maximise engagement and facilitate success. Comments in this section of your child’s report will make up their Semester Two Individual Education Plan.
The comments which are included in the student reports will however come directly from the IEP (located on Compass).
Areas of improvement are taken from the next progression point level.

For example, if Charles is given a comment that is a 4.5 progression point for writing, one of his areas for improvement will be a 5.0 progression point for writing
Example
The areas for improvement comment should focus on how the student will achieve the skills, concepts or knowledge they need, teachers should adapt any comments they need to make it clear.
For example:
In order to further develop his skills and knowledge, Charles needs to use a variety of criteria for evaluating learning skills; for example, ‘How much have I improved?’ ‘How original was my idea?’
